Hi Kavya, can you tell us about your role as Head of People & Culture?

As Head of People & Culture, I head up the HR function at Abbots Care. I manage the People & Culture team and together we support employees. 

 

A main focus is to ensure our values are at the core of all employment processes to establish a fair, collaborative and positive working culture.

Can you tell us about your key responsibilities as Head of People & Culture?

I am responsible for ensuring that our people activities are fair, compliant and fun! I update our policies to incorporate legal updates and communicate these changes internally. I coach managers through our processes on performance management, reward, absence management and diversity & inclusion.

The Abbots Care team is great and all have a passion to provide high quality care to their Service Users.

How did you get into this role?

I have worked in HR for over 20 years and was looking for a role within an organisation that genuinely lives and believes in their values. I wanted to bring my experience and knowledge to a business to support their success.

What three skills would you say are key to being successful in your role?

  • Being open minded
  • Resiliene
  • Effective communication skills

Can you tell us what you love most about your role?

Abbots Care is very fast paced which leads to great variety in work. Even after 20 years of HR experience, I am constantly learning.

What does a day in your work life look like?

I start the day reviewing any emails that have come through and respond to them accordingly. The rest of the day can change constantly and usually consists of meetings.

What are your hobbies/ interests outside of work?

I love travelling, networking and watching movies. I have volunteered for the St. Albans Film Festival several times.

What inspires you in your role every day?

The team is great and their passion for care is evident and that is infectious! You sense that everyone is collaborating to provide quality care for our Service Users.
