How Are Abbots Care Supporting Our Care Workers this Professional Care Workers Week, and Every Day?

At Abbots Care, we recognise that our Care Workers are the backbone of the essential services we provide to communities across the South East of England. The dedication, compassion, and resilience they display every day is truly admirable. However, we also understand that working in social care often comes with significant challenges that can take a toll on mental health. This Professional Care Workers Week, we’re taking a moment to highlight the ways we’re committed to supporting the mental well-being of our staff—not just this week, but every day.

Prioritising mental health with our innovative well-being app

Abbots Care is committed to supporting the mental health and well-being of our Care Workers through innovative solutions. One of our key initiatives is the community-minded wellbeing app, created specifically for our home care workforce. Designed by our Managing Director and Co-Founder, Camille Leavold, the app addresses the feelings of isolation often experienced by Care Workers, especially heightened during the pandemic. Since its launch, the app has significantly enhanced communication, culture, and team motivation across our remote workforce of over 500 employees.

Key features include mood check-ins, peer support, rewards for engagement, mental health advice, and client feedback. This app is available to all employees from their first day, ensuring they have the tools to prioritise their well-being and stay connected with their colleagues.

Regular check-ins

Burnout is a significant issue in the care sector, with recent statistics showing that nearly 28% of homecare providers cite it as a key reason for staff departures. At Abbots Care, we’ve implemented regular weekly or monthly check-ins between managers and Care Workers. These sessions offer a safe space for our staff to voice their concerns, discuss any challenges they’re facing, and receive the support they need. These proactive check-ins are crucial for identifying early signs of stress or burnout and ensuring our team members feel heard and valued.

Training and progression

For many people, professional development is essential for you to be content and fulfilled in work. At Abbots Care, we are deeply committed to the growth and development of our Care Workers, offering a comprehensive range of training and progression opportunities. We believe that continuous learning is key to providing outstanding care and ensuring job satisfaction.

Our training programmes are designed to equip our staff with the skills they need to excel in their roles, including specialised courses in areas such as dementia care, palliative care, and mental health support.

This Professional Care Workers Week, and every day, we will continue to invest in the mental health and well-being of our staff because we know that when our Care Workers thrive, so do the individuals and communities they support.
