What is Visiting Care?

Visiting care, sometimes known as domiciliary care or care visits at home, provides professional support delivered in short, flexible visits throughout the week. It is ideal for people who need a little extra help with day-to-day tasks and personal care, but do not require round-the-clock support, allowing people to remain living at home comfortably.

From assistance getting up in the morning to support with medication, meal preparation or companionship, our highly trained care team is here to help with a wide range of practical and personal needs.

We understand that no two people are the same. That is why we get to know your circumstances to come up with a care plan that works best for you. Whether you need a short daily visit or multiple visits throughout the day, visiting care offers the right balance of independence and reassurance.

Our dedicated visiting care allows individuals to receive reliable support without leaving familiar surroundings. The aim of visiting care is simple: to make everyday life easier, safer and more enjoyable while preserving independence and dignity.

Who Is Visiting Care For?

Visiting care is suitable for anyone who wishes to remain independent at home but needs some level of additional support.

It may be appropriate if:

• You have recently returned home from hospital
• You have lost confidence following a fall
• You are living with a long-term health condition
• You need help managing medication
• You would benefit from regular companionship
• Your family needs support sharing caring responsibilities

Visiting home care can prevent small challenges from becoming larger problems, helping individuals maintain safety and quality of life at home.

Our different types of visiting care services

Visiting care is flexible by design, giving you the reassurance of professional support without disrupting daily life. Depending on your needs, we can provide short-term assistance during recovery or ongoing support as part of a longer-term care plan. Every service is tailored around the individual, ensuring the right level of help at the right time.

Our visiting care services include:

Respite Care

Caring for a loved one can be rewarding, but it can also be physically and emotionally demanding. Our respite visiting care provides short-term support that allows family carers to rest, attend appointments or simply take time for themselves. During each visit, our professional care worker steps in to provide consistent, high-quality care, ensuring routines are maintained, and your loved one feels comfortable.

Overnight Care

For individuals who feel vulnerable at night, we offer evening and waking night visits. This can include assistance with bedtime routines, medication, continence care, repositioning for comfort or reassurance if waking during the night. Overnight visiting care can reduce anxiety, improve sleep quality and provide families with confidence that support is available when it is most needed.

Dementia Care

Our specialist visiting dementia care is delivered by trained professionals who understand the challenges of memory loss and cognitive change. We focus on maintaining familiar routines, supporting communication and creating calm, structured visits that promote stability. Whether assistance is needed with personal care, meal preparation or simply companionship, our approach prioritises dignity and consistency.

Elderly Care

Compassionate visiting care for older adults who require assistance with everyday tasks such as personal care, mobility support, meal preparation and household management. Our elderly visiting care services are designed to help individuals remain safely in their own home, maintaining independence while receiving practical and emotional support.

Complex Care

For individuals living with more advanced medical needs or long-term health conditions, we provide specialist visiting complex care delivered by highly trained care workers. This may include support with PEG feeding, catheter care, stoma care, medication administration, mobility assistance, or rehabilitation following illness or surgery. Our team works closely with healthcare professionals to ensure care plans are clinically informed, safe and responsive, allowing individuals with complex needs to remain supported in the comfort of their own home.

If care needs increase over time, we can seamlessly integrate visiting care with our live-in care or complex care services. This ensures continuity of support and avoids unnecessary disruption, providing a care pathway that evolves alongside changing circumstances.

Over 30 Years of Experience

Inviting someone into your home requires trust. With more than three decades of experience providing visiting care across Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Dorset, we understand the responsibility that comes with delivering care in someone’s personal space.

We are rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in Hertfordshire, reflecting our commitment to quality, safety and professionalism. All care workers are fully trained in-house and supported by experienced care managers and nurse assessors to ensure consistently high standards.

Families choose Abbots Care because we combine professional expertise with a genuinely personal approach.

How Does Visiting Care Work?

Every visiting care journey begins with a personalised assessment. We take time to understand your health, mobility, preferences, lifestyle and goals. From there, we create a tailored care plan built around the level of support you require.

Our visiting care can assist with:

• Personal care, including washing, dressing and grooming
• Meal preparation and nutritional support
• Light housework and household tasks
• Medication reminders and administration
• Running errands and collecting prescriptions
• Mobility support and safe transfers
• Support attending appointments
• Companionship and social engagement

Visiting care is completely flexible. Visits can be arranged from as little as 30 minutes at a time, once a week or several times a day.

Begin Care

We will work with you and your family to create a person-centred care plan, which is reviewed regularly when your care begins.

Domiciliary care built around you

Visiting home care should fit naturally into your day. We work around your existing routine rather than expecting you to adapt to ours.

Whether you prefer an early morning visit to help you start the day or evening support before bed, your care plan is designed to reflect your preferences. If your needs change, we review and adjust your care plan accordingly.

This flexibility makes visiting care an excellent choice for those who value independence but appreciate consistent support.

What Does a Typical Drop-in Visit Look Like?

Every visit is tailored to the individual, but a typical visiting care appointment may include:

Morning Visit:
Support getting out of bed, assistance with washing and dressing, preparing breakfast and organising medication.

Midday Visit:
Meal preparation, light housework, companionship or support attending appointments.

Evening Visit:
Preparing dinner, personal care, settling in for the night and ensuring medication is taken safely.

For some people, visiting care may focus mainly on companionship and social engagement. For others, it may involve more hands-on support with mobility or health management. The level of assistance is entirely based on need.
