What's it like being a Home Care Worker at Abbots Care?
Let’s take five minutes to ask team member Alfredo some questions to find out more about the all-important role of a Care Worker.
Can you tell us about your responsibilities as a Care Worker?
As a Home Care Worker at Abbots Care I am responsible for providing support to vulnerable people and ensuring they feel as happy as possible in their own homes/ community.
What is a day in the life of a Care Worker like?
As a Home Care Worker, your days can be quite busy and varied but it’s always very rewarding. I love that I have created strong relationships with my Service Users who are always extremely grateful. I always finish my work day feeling valuable knowing I have made a positive change in someone’s life.
How did you get into the care industry?
I found myself unemployed in a completely different industry and took a chance at looking for something different to do. I have been with Abbots Care for 3 years now and since becoming a Care Worker I have never looked back!
What skills would you say are key to being successful in this role?
I believe that being genuine, having empathy, patience and attention to detail are the most important skills to be successful in the care industry.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I love spending time with family and playing the piano. I am particularly looking forward to playing piano and sharing some music at our next Service User tea party which I hope they will enjoy!
Being a Care worker is very rewarding. What brings me most joy in my role is my Service Users and knowing I have put a smile on their faces.
Can you tell us any challenges you face as a Care Worker?
Being a Care Worker is not a 9 to 5 job, so it’s good to ensure you maintain a good balance between work and personal life. This means that it’s important and necessary to plan ahead so work you have a good rest and restore energy to enjoy life at home.
What would you like people to know about being a Care Worker?
It may be challenging at times but it is the most rewarding job I have ever had.
How are you finding your time at Abbots Care?
We are one big family at Abbots Care! My hard work never goes unnoticed, from winning an award at the annual Abbots Care awards to receiving compliments from colleagues on the wellbeing app I have always felt important and supported here. I began as a Live-In Care Worker and quickly progressed my career into Re-Enablement Care Worker.
