Our International Carers Reach Dementia Care Awards Final
Careers in care come with both rewards and challenges, and due to the UK’s ageing population, carers play an increasingly crucial role in supporting the most vulnerable members of our community.
At Abbots Care, we are proud to support the careers of dedicated and compassionate individuals looking to make a difference in people’s lives. This includes carers from overseas who want to further their knowledge and contribute meaningfully through high-quality live-in care services.
Kriti and Mary Jean are two such carers. Hailing from Nepal and the Philippines respectively, they have excelled in the field of live-in and dementia care services since starting at Abbots Care. Working in rotation, they live in the home with the client and deliver person-centred care on demand, exemplifying the best of live-in care services in action.
Finalists in the Dementia Care Awards 2025
Their immense dedication, innovation, and warmth have now seen them reach the final of the Dementia Care Awards 2025!
The national awards recognise the outstanding work of dementia care teams across the country, and the judging panel decided that Kriti and Mary Jean were among the country’s most dedicated and talented care professionals delivering live-in care services.
We are immensely proud of their achievement, and we wanted to share it to inspire those who are considering a career in care, and to demonstrate to those looking for live-in care services that there are amazing people here to support you and your family.
Kriti and Mary Jean’s Nomination
The client’s next of kin nominated them for their warm and friendly approach, and their efforts to go above and beyond to fully understand the needs and preferences of their mother and father.
This is what our client’s next of kin had to say about Kriti and Mary Jean:
Kriti
Kriti is an excellent, hard-working and skilled carer providing high-quality, responsive care to my father. She always smiles and always aspires to make my parents’ lives as good as they can be, providing all-round care which she administers with gentleness, great kindness and sensitivity.
She has endless patience and never ever complains despite the work being physically quite hard and also emotionally challenging at times. Kriti has been flexible and creative in the care she provides, altering her strategies to accommodate my father’s mood and anxiety—for example, in managing challenges in getting him to eat, drink, and take medication—with gentle encouragement. She sings gently to him when he is stressed and speaks quietly and gently, which he finds reassuring.
She has always communicated well with the family when there have been concerns about my parents’ well-being and has been proactive in seeking solutions to problems.
Kriti has really developed as a carer over the year and a half she has been with my parents. She is observant about subtle changes and responsive to these changes in informing the family and discussing them with us.
Kriti has been interested and curious about my parents’ life stories as well as the wider family and keen to learn the way the family does things, which has allowed her to mirror what my parents are used to. This means she fits in well.
We are lucky to be able to feel confident in the quality of live-in care services that she provides. I am nominating both of our carers for this award because there is nothing to choose between them. We deeply value the care and kindness that they bestow and all their hard work.

Mary Jean
Mary has been such a wonderful, hard-working carer. Her patience is endless, she never complains, and understands how to be kind and respectful without being patronising. She is hard-working and good at engaging with and distracting my father from his very high level of anxiety, and has developed helpful and creative techniques which divert and assist him when he is very agitated.
Mary always welcomes everyone with a big smile and is cheerful with my parents and the wider family. She communicates well with us when there are concerns, whilst being proactive in seeking solutions to problems.
Mary is responsive to changes in my father’s mood or general condition and is good at anticipating his needs, and seeks to enable him to maximise what few choices he is able to express when he is struggling to engage with necessary care tasks. She is skilled in approaching these with flexibility and sensitivity to enable tasks to get done without upset. She will re-engage with these tasks after diverting him with her voice or tactile contact so that calm is restored. Mary is never forceful—just resourceful in finding a way through to getting things done.
And not to forget her fantastic sense of humour and the genuine interests she takes in our parent’s lives
She is experienced, caring, cheerful and thoughtful, and keen to try to adopt the ways of the family—which means she fits in well and delivers truly personalised live-in care services.
