Abbots Care x Youth Talk: Supporting Young People’s Mental Health
We are proud to announce our new partnership with Youth Talk, a charity providing free, confidential mental health support for young people across Hertfordshire.
At Abbots Care, we recognise that well-being isn’t just about physical health. Mental health is equally vital for a fulfilling and independent life, and is an often overlooked element effecting carers and Care Workers when looking after someone.
By working alongside Youth Talk, we hope to raise awareness of the challenges young people face and help signpost those in need towards life-changing support.
What Does Youth Talk Do?
Youth Talk provides one-to-one and group counselling to young people aged 13-25, offering them a safe space to talk and be heard. Their psychodynamic therapy approach helps individuals understand how past experiences influence their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, giving them the tools to build confidence and resilience for the future.
Why This Support Is Important
The need for mental health services has never been greater:
- 1 in 4 people in England will experience a mental health problem in any given year.
- 1 in 6 report experiencing a common issue like anxiety or depression each week.
These statistics, shared by Mind, highlight the importance of accessible, early intervention mental health support—exactly what Youth Talk provides.
Many young people have already benefited from their services:
“Without Youth Talk, I would have continued to have unhealthy relationships and low self-esteem. I wouldn’t have learned to be kind to myself either.”
“Youth Talk saved me from going down a dark hole in the place I was in at the time.”
How This Partnership Will Help Young People in St Albans
We are committed to making a real difference in people’s lives, just as Youth Talk does every day.
Through this partnership, we will:
- Support Youth Talk in continuing their incredible work.
- Raise awareness about mental health challenges faced by young people.
- Signpost young people, families, and care professionals to vital mental health resources.
We believe that mental health and well-being should never be overlooked, and we’re excited to work alongside Youth Talk to champion this cause in our community.
Speaking of the Partnership, Jim Lewis, Fundraising and Partnerships Manager said:
“Since 1995 Abbots Care have put caring for people in their community at the heart of everything they do. There is so much synergy between their mission and that of Youth Talk, and we are so excited and grateful that they have now chosen to support us, helping us raise awareness of our services and donate much-needed funds. The benefactors will be our local young people and their mental well-being, supporting them to find peace, hope, and happiness and the confidence and resilience to fulfil their potential.’’
