Dementia Awareness Week: Demand for Dementia Care Continues to Rise
At Abbots Care, we have seen a significant rise in the number of people needing support with dementia over the last five years. Back in 2020, 21% of the clients we supported had a dementia diagnosis; this has grown to 43% in 2025—an increase of 22%. This reflects a growing trend of increasing dementia diagnoses in the UK. This could be due to a greater understanding of the benefits of receiving a dementia diagnosis, such as greater financial support and access to more suitable care.
These statistics show the growing responsibility of home care companies, with the Bucks Herald and Hemel Today covering this story.
As we mark this year’s Dementia Action Week, we are reflecting on how our role as a home care provider has evolved to meet this growing need for dementia home care services.
Supporting Local Families For 30 Years
As a family-run care provider with nearly 30 years of experience, we’ve always placed quality, compassionate care at the heart of what we do. Our specialist dementia care workers support individuals and their families with personalised home care plans, incorporating physical activity, time outdoors, and practical respite for family carers.
We understand how challenging caring for a loved one with dementia can be, and we’re here to make that journey easier.
We’re proud that two of our dedicated dementia care workers, Kriti and Mary, have been shortlisted in this year’s Care Talk Dementia Care Awards under the Dementia Home Care Team Award category. This recognition is a testament to the exceptional work our care teams do every day.
Our CEO, Camille Leavold, said:
“We’ve seen the demand for dementia care soar in recent years, and we believe this will continue to rise. We’re committed to offering high-quality, person-centred support at home for individuals living with dementia and their families.”
Camille was the first recipient of the Chief Nurse for Adult Social Care Gold Award in 2021, recognising her leadership and contribution to the care sector during the pandemic. Today, she continues to advocate for quality home care as a board member of the Homecare Association.
We also celebrate the work of community organisations like Watford FC’s Golden Memories programme, which uses football memorabilia and gentle physical activity to support those living with mild to moderate dementia. Projects like these make a real difference and align with our own belief that meaningful engagement and routine can be powerful tools in dementia care.
As the number of people diagnosed with dementia continues to rise, we remain committed to delivering expert, compassionate care that supports individuals to live well at home, for as long as possible.
